The Collegio

At The Collegio, Pittsburg State University's student newspaper, I write and edit campus stories, coordinate writer assignments, communicate with advertising clients, and support publication quality. My work has strengthened the same skills I will use as an educator and advocate: listening carefully, asking clear questions, organizing information, meeting deadlines, and communicating with purpose.

The Collegio

Reporting, writing, and telling campus stories.

Journalism has helped me become a stronger communicator. Every article requires preparation, interviewing, accuracy, editing, and attention to audience. Those skills connect directly to teaching because both journalism and education depend on clear explanations, careful listening, and responsible communication.

My work at The Collegio includes reporting on campus life, student organizations, university events, and people within the Pittsburg State community. I also manage advertising communication and help support editorial production in my current leadership role.

During my Wildcat Extension District practicum, I also drafted public communication materials connected to community education. Some materials were submitted through the district and published under office or supervisor bylines, which reflects the professional structure of extension communication.

Why Media Matters to My Work

Communication is central to teaching, leadership, and advocacy. Journalism has helped me practice how to gather information, represent people accurately, meet deadlines, and explain ideas in a way that people can understand. Those skills support my future work as a Family and Consumer Sciences educator, FCCLA adviser, student leader, and advocate for the profession.
